Utah National Guard - Statewide MPS Implementation

The Utah National Guard maintains 30 armories, and is present in 27 communities. With a total force of approximately 6,000 members the Utah National Guard is constantly in need of improving the support infrastructure of its home operations through improved management, fiscal accountability, and policy driven decision making.
In 2009 the Utah National Guard conducted an extensive review of their statewide printing environment. With close to 1,000 printers, copiers, and fax machines distributed across centralized and decentralized purchasing environments throughout the state of Utah it became apparent that the G6 headquarters would need to win the political battle required to implement a new MPS Environment.

The company was concerned that, as the business evolved, it needed to get a better control over its document printing costs. As with most businesses, it was hard to find the time, resources and experience to examine this aspect of its operations.
So in 2005, the company commissioned CSC to analyse its print environment and make recommendations for improvement.
As a result, the company outsourced responsibility for its print fleet to CSC, thus eliminating capital expense, obtaining clarity of cost (TCO), transparency of fleet performance and ROI clarity.
The company achieved dramatic savings in print related costs, and it improved end user satisfaction with enhanced capability closer to the desktop. The national number of print devices was consolidated by 26% with fewer desktop printers and more shared devices in use.
